Reunification Therapy
Rebuild Trust
Reunification Therapy is a form of Family Therapy. The emphasis in the reuniting or
reestablishing a relationship between a child or adolescent and their parent often caused by divorce, separation, abandonment, or abuse.
The primary goal in Reunification Therapy is to provide a safe and secure place for the child and the parent to develop trust and begin a healthy relationship. It emphasizes attachment, promotes healthy communication, and works to heal injuries in the relationship. In this form of therapy, the child sets the pace of the reunification. If the therapist is encouraged to rush the process, the therapy most likely will not be successful. The work is intensive and requires patience on behalf of parents. The mental health of the child or adolescent is always a focus of pacing and timing of the work.
There are times when the process includes, individual therapy of a child, co-parenting skills training, and communication skills training.
